Moin Moin Freunde der verdammt geilen Mukke und Leser unseres High-Quality-Magazins! Und ja, schleimen kann ich! Bevor ihr aber auf meiner Spur ausrutscht hab ich mir mal das am 20.September erschienene dritte Album „Obscene Daydreams“ der vier Punker aus Orange County mit Namen „The Last Gang“ mal vorgenommen. Und was da über Fat Wreck Chords veröffentlicht wurde ist echt geiler Scheiß. Brenna Red, Sängerin und Gitarristin der Band sagt über die Band selbst: „Wir sind einfach ein Haufen Punkrocker, die gerne Musik machen und über Dinge schreiben, die uns gut, wütend und lebendig fühlen lassen.“ und das die restlichen Mitglieder der Band, Bassist Sean Viele, Gitarrist Ken Aquino und Schlagzeuger Sam Mankinen dem zustimmen merkt man an jeder Ecke.

Female Punk is Alive! 

Ich werde es niemals müde zu erwähnen.. aber: Ich mag Female fronted Bands ja sehr gerne, und im Bereich Punk passt das einfach wie Arsch auf Eimer. Man Merkt es immer wieder auch bei Bands wie Brunhilde oder deine Cousine. „Electric Avenue“ ballert euch also gleich Punk vom feinsten um die Ohren, macht Laune und Bock auf mehr, wirkt dabei aber weniger Abgefuckt und dafür moderner und Zeitgemäßer. „The Others“ schlägt dabei in die gleiche Kerbe, wirkt allgemein aber dann doch wieder rauchiger, punkiger. Der Track „NRA Back 2 School“ haut euch Wut und Kritik vom feinsten in die Gehörgänge und lässt qualitativ kein Auge trocken. Getoppt nur noch von „Hide the Atagonist“ der ebensolche Wut versprüht und interessante, moderne Ansätze für guten Punkrock liefert. Entspannter geht es dann mit „Rumors“ weiter.

Sozialer Kannibalismus

„Dogmatic Capitalizer“ ist der typische Orange County Punk, gespielt und aufgenommen und bereitet euch optimal auf schnelle Riffs und den Rhythmus von „Vacant Eyes“ vor. Einem Song der euch auf jeden Fall in Stimmung bringen sollte gegen das Regime auf zu begehren, gemeinsam! Während es mit „Madness“ wieder dezent ruhiger dahergeht, sofern man bei Punk noch von Ruhe sprechen mag. Und auch „Dead Horse“ bleibt noch auf dem Boden, ist aber interessant genug um nicht nur einfach daher zu plätschern. „Berlin to Rome“ hat schon was ganz eigenes an sich, und wirkt weder Fehl am Platz, noch schlecht Inszeniert. Nur der Anfang wirkt etwas ungewöhnlich und lässt eher Pop vermuten. Der Song geht sich aber gut in feinsten Punk aus. Zum Abschluss nochmal Abriss mit „Years From Now“ in welchem die Lyrics dezent in den Hintergrund gerückt sind.

Fazit

Punk is not Dead! Und für die echt geile Umsetzung gibt es 5/6 Schädel für den Nietengürtel zum anpinnen. Kauft euch das Album unbedingt und versucht die Band mal live zu erwischen sofern möglich. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall!

Brenna Red, the band’s singer and guitarist, says about the band: „We’re just a bunch of punk rockers who love making music and writing about things that make us feel good, angry, and alive.“ And you can tell that bassist Sean Viele, guitarist Ken Aquino, and drummer Sam Mankinen agree with her every step of the way.

Female Punk is Alive!

I will never get tired of saying it, but: I really like female-fronted bands, and in the punk scene, it just fits like a glove. You can see that again and again with bands like Brunhilde or Deine Cousine. Electric Avenue hits you right in the face with pure punk from the start, gets you pumped and eager for more, but it feels less raw and instead more modern and up-to-date. The Others strikes a similar chord but overall feels a bit smokier and punkier. The track NRA Back 2 School hits you with top-notch rage and criticism right in your ears, leaving no room for anything less. It’s only topped by Hide the Antagonist, which also oozes rage and delivers interesting, modern takes on good punk rock. Things cool down a bit with Rumors.

Social Cannibalism

Dogmatic Capitalizer is typical Orange County punk, played and recorded, preparing you for the fast riffs and rhythm of Vacant Eyes, a song that will definitely get you in the mood to rebel against the regime, together! Meanwhile, Madness brings things down a notch, as far as you can call anything quiet in punk. Even Dead Horse stays grounded but remains interesting enough not to just coast along. Berlin to Rome has something really unique about it; it doesn’t feel out of place or poorly executed. Only the beginning feels a bit unusual and gives more of a pop vibe. But the song develops nicely into a fine punk sound. To wrap things up, Years From Now brings the house down again, with the lyrics taking a backseat this time.

Conclusion

Punk is not dead! And for the seriously awesome execution, it gets 5 out of 6 skulls for the spiked belt. Definitely buy the album and try to catch the band live if possible. It’s totally worth it!
