Moin moin Leute! Euer Messer Jack hat sich auf Grund des zu warmen Wetters mal in den Norden Europas gewagt, und dort das am 7. Juni erscheinende Album „Spiritual Syphilis“ der Norweger von „Odio Deus“ an Bord geholt. Seit 2020 machen die drei Jungs mit Namen Telal, Braatebrann und Winterheart zusammen Musik. Unterstützt werden sie dabei mittlerweile von unseren Freunden von Wormholedeath, bei denen sie vor kurzem erst angeheuert haben.

Schwarzer Tot

Klingt erstmal dramatisch, trifft es aber dann doch sehr genau. Die Mischung aus Skandinavischen Deathmetal und Americanischen Blackmetal ballert euch gleich bei “ Curse of Jehovah“ voll um die Ohren. Und wer sich schonmal so richtig auspowern wollte, ist hier natürlich bestens aufgehoben. “ The Con Man“ sprüht dabei noch vor melancholischer Freude und macht echt Laune. Durch den Refrain getragen kommt die Energie einfach direkt in die Venen geschossen. Innerlich kann ich mir dabei die Kreuzigung irgendwelcher Pfaffen bestens vorstellen. Man kann also sagen das sie ihrem Genre alle Ehre machen. “ The Chosen People“ legt Tempo zu, wirkt insgesamt düsterer und brutaler mit schnellen Riffs und Drums. Bevor es dann als vierten Track zu “ Spiritual Syphilis“ einen Sprichwörtlichen Deathmetalorgasmus gibt. Muss man natürlich mögen das Geschrammel, geht aber runter wie ein kaltes Bier nach der Sauna. Dem wird auch „Deceiver“ kein Abbruch tun und greift die Qualität und Schnelligkeit direkt auf, wenn auch gefühlt etwas rhytmischer.

„Lenkene er brutt“

passt zur Band und deren Album ausgezeichnet. Übersetzt so viel wie „die Ketten sind gebrochen“ löst sich der Track von den brutalen und schnellen Tönen, baut düster und mystisch das auf, was man von Blackmetal erwarten kann. Der Partnertrack dazu: “ Svik“ führt das Thema direkt fort, und ändert dabei kaum etwas. Und wer nun zu hoffen wagte eine Pause zu bekommen, wird absolut enttäuscht an seinem  Bier nippen müssen. „Glossolalia“ gibt wieder Gas, baut nochmal ganz direkt die Stimmung auf. “ Til evig tid“ ist das Ende der Platte und ein gelungener Abschied um sich auf kommende Live-Shows vorzubereiten.

Fazit

Ich bin bekennend kein großer Fan von Death- oder Blackmetal, das gebe ich gerne zu. Aber die 4/6 Schädel für den Opferaltar sind absolut verdient und selbst ich hatte meine Freude an dem Album. Wer also auf brutalen und ehrlichen Metal aus Skandinavien steht soll sich das ganze mal unbedingt vorbestellen.

Your Messer Jack has ventured north to Europe due to the warm weather and has picked up the album „Spiritual Syphilis“ by the Norwegians from Odio Deus which will be released on June 7th. Since 2020, the three guys named Telal, Braatebrann, and Winterheart have been making music together. They are now supported by our friends at Wormholedeath, who they recently signed with.

Black Death

Sounds dramatic at first, but it fits very well. The mix of Scandinavian Death Metal and American Black Metal hits you right away with „Curse of Jehovah.“ And if you want to really exhaust yourself, this is the perfect place for it. „The Con Man“ exudes melancholic joy and is really fun. The energy just shoots straight into your veins, carried by the chorus. I can easily imagine the crucifixion of some priests to this. You can say they truly honor their genre. „The Chosen People“ picks up the pace, overall darker and more brutal with fast riffs and drums. Then comes the titular track „Spiritual Syphilis“ as the fourth track, which is a proverbial Death Metal orgasm. You have to like the racket, but it goes down as smoothly as a cold beer after the sauna. „Deceiver“ doesn’t let up and matches the quality and speed directly, though it feels a bit more rhythmic.

„Lenkene er brutt“

fits the band and their album perfectly. Translated as „the chains are broken,“ the track moves away from the brutal and fast tones, building dark and mystical vibes that you can expect from Black Metal. The partner track „Svik“ continues the theme directly without changing much. And those who hoped for a break will be sorely disappointed, having to sip their beer. „Glossolalia“ ramps up again, building the mood directly. „Til evig tid“ is the end of the album and a perfect farewell to prepare for upcoming live shows.

Conclusion

I openly admit that I am not a big fan of Death or Black Metal. But the 4/6 skulls for the sacrificial altar are absolutely deserved, and even I enjoyed the album. So, if you are into brutal and honest metal from Scandinavia, you should definitely pre-order it.
